What is 'BTRON' ?

The TRON Project was launched in  early 1980's under the leadership of Dr. Ken Sakamura of the University of Tokyo. The project, intended to create quite a new computer architecture, consists of four sub-projects, in which BTRON is related to the field of personal computers.

The BTRON specification based-operating system was thrown into market in 1990 for the first time. It already was a highly stable preemptive multitasking multi-window system equipped with refined user-friendly graphical user interfaces. (Remind of the fact that Microsoft Windows '3.0' was released in May, 1990! )
Unfortunately, BTRON computers have not been the mainstream in the personal computer market, but it still is supported by a lot of enthusiasts.

The BTRON specification is open to anyone. Any software developers and individuals anywhere in the world can make BTRON-compatible products with no fee.
